Reasonable accommodations are determined through an interactive process to ensure equal access. Once accommodations are approved, they need to be implemented by faculty. Faculty are sent Letters of Accommodation for traditional undergraduate students by our office at the start of each semester. However, graduate students and those within the Van Loan program send their letters independently to their professors at their own discretion.
After reviewing your accommodations letters, we suggest that you:
- Organize - Have a personal system that makes finding the letters easily accessible
- Be proactive – Think of concerns as your read the letter, not when the student requests the accommodation
- Reach out- Feel free to meet privately with the student to support them in meeting their academic goals
- Implement – Know you only have to implement accommodations if a letter is received and if so, only the accommodations listed on the letter
- Get support – Reach out to the Center for Accessibility Services or Academic Technology as needed.
